Wondering how to prepare for your next injectable or Botox session so that you get the best results possible? Here are some tips from our Botox specialist, Dr. Ee:
Do not consume alcohol at least 24 hours before undergoing Botox Injections, as alcohol can thin the blood and increase the possibility of bruising. You should also avoid medications like blood thinners or anti-inflammatories (Aspirin, Motrin, Advil, etc.)
Avoid shaving in the area that will receive Botox (whether with wax, laser, or cream). Avoid products with ‘anti-aging' substances, like retinol, glycolic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid.
Eat well and be well hydrated prior to treatment or you might feel lightheaded during the procedure.
Do not massage or rub the affected area for at least 24 hours to prevent the Botox from spreading to other muscles.
Do not consume alcohol at least 24 hours after undergoing Botox Injections, as alcohol can thin the blood and increase the possibility of bruising.
Avoid strenuous exercises or activities and don’t lie down for at least four hours after the procedure. This is also to avoid Botox moving to other areas. Very important not to lay face down in a donut ring.
Don’t undergo other treatments, like microdermabrasion, facials, and chemical peels for at least 24 hours after the procedure. Staying out of the sun for a while is also a good idea, at least until any redness or swelling has gone down.
The onset is around 3-4 days after injections. It is common for the results of the treatment to take up to two weeks to show full effect, so wait until this time has passed before assessing whether or not you’ll need a touch-up.
You may experience soreness at the injection site, weakness of the injected muscle and neighboring muscles, bruising, and local pain from the injection. Some people experience a heaviness over the injected regions, almost like a headache. With time, this is something you get used to and will resolve. You’ll look like you have little mosquito bites in 1 hour but that will resolve quickly.
Please call or text us our office with any questions after treatment. We will check in with you around the 1-week mark to see how you are doing and to see if we need to schedule a touch-up after 2 weeks.
